The AutoCorrect features include automatically replacing commonly misspelled words, suggesting commonly-used words after you’re typed the first few characters (word completion), changing “straight” quotation marks with “curly” (custom) ones (if the chosen font has them), and automatically applying a variety of formatting.
Many people find some of the AutoCorrect functions quite helpful; other people think they are annoying because they change what you type when you don’t want it changed.
Tip: If you find unexplained changes appearing in your document, this is a good place to look to find the cause.
To open the AutoCorrect dialog, click Tools > AutoCorrect/AutoFormat. (You need to have a document open for this menu item to appear.) To choose the features you want to use, select or deselect the relevant checkboxes.
